Zoo Penguin Pool, Edinburgh, Scotland
Exhibited
Competition Entry

The design
intent was to make the scheme as inviting as possible for both public and
penguins, and also to enrich our understanding of the
penguins way of life. An existing naturalistic
pool is mirrored to the east of the site and large free form diving pools
are introduced in the centre.
The public route bisects the site in two allowing maximum views of the penguins habitat. At the heart of the scheme is an
underwater viewing
gallery and here dramatic views through the glass floor and walls allow the
visitor fantastic scenes of the penguins at play.
